The Web is a big place, full of new and interesting things to discover. The problem is finding the good stuff and keeping track of it all. This is where Delicious can help.

Delicious is a Social Bookmarking service, which means you can save all your bookmarks online, share them with other people, and see what other people are bookmarking. It also means that we can show you the most popular bookmarks being saved right now across many areas of interest. In addition, our search and tagging tools help you keep track of your entire bookmark collection and find tasty new bookmarks from people like you.

Do things like font size affect the value passed through a link? Sounds strange, but Bill Slawski specialises in asking questions that the rest of us may not even come close to thinking. A great SEO read.

Using Google Analytics? Check out Jennita’s post, “5 Simple Google Analytics Tips You Should Be Using“. Like the title says, the tips are… er, simple. But who knows, there may be a tip that makes your day just that little bit easier.

Amber Naslund (a regular in this column) argues that intent, above all else, may be the most important thing in relationships and relationship marketing. What say you?

What Facebook, giveth, Facebook can take(eth) away… at any time. Many of us use custom landing tabs for our Facebook pages to increase the chance of a visitor “liking” that page. So when Facebook announced they were limiting that use, page administrators revolted. They seem to have backed down, for now… but for how long?

Brian Solis – with a guest post over at Mashable – gives us the 21 Rules for Social Media Engagement. I sometimes get irritated with Brian’s more “fluff” pieces, but this is a great piece full of practical advice.

Some great reminders there for all of us who may lose sight of the basics occasionally.

This piece from Jessica Lee over at Bruce Clay, “Content Boot Camp: Run a Mile in Your Reader’s Shoes“, would be worth it if only for the PDF questionnaire shared at the end of the post. But the rest of the post makes it all the sweeter.

“Diesel Cam Brings Facebook To The Fitting Room“. Yeah, the link says it all, doesn’t it? But seriously, this is a fascinating use of Facebook at the point of sale.

Marty (who I saw speak recently at SMX Sydney) put out a great piece upon his return entitled “What the Hell is SEO Now Anyway?“. It’s well worth a read, and certainly shows you that the world of SEO is in a constant state of flux.

Although I would normally just say that Jeremy is looking for linkbait by publishing yet another “SEO hatefest” on his site, I actually agree with his latest piece. Well, mostly. Anyway, check out why Jeremy hates SEO here. And see how much of it rings true with your site.

Rand’s post, “30 SEO Problems & the Tools to Solve Them“, is a super-helpful post for those who are looking for more tools to add to their arsenal.

Looking to beef up your Facebook fanpage? Then this post from Mari Smith, “21 Creative Ways To Increase Your Facebook Fanbase” is just up your alley.

I’m a big fan of Raven SEO Tools, and this piece just made me love them all the more; they’re currently offering Raven Internet Marketing Tools to Nonprofits… so ahead and nominate your favourite nonprofit today.

Of course, there was huge, huge news from Facebook over the last week. The first of the pieces to make it into this Delicious roundup is the announcement of enhanced analytics to Facebook fan page owners.

The second is a demonstration of how quickly businesses are taking advantage of their new social plugins… in this case, Levi’s demonstrates a fantastic use of integrating the new Facebook “Like” button into their store.

Things that were delicious this week – 16 April, 2010

Lots of Twitter coverage this week. The first couple discuss searching Twitter’s archives… both the Library of Congress and Google will offer archive search, and all I can say is: thank goodness. A reliable twitter search option is sorely needed, at this point.

Readwriteweb also collated some of the more interesting Twitter statistics released at the Chirp conference. Great to finally see some official figures released on the “third-party apps” usage.

And in the last Twitter piece this week, Andrew Goodman looks at Twitter’s monetisation schemes. I always enjoy Andrew’s perspective on things, and was really happy to see him point out that – at times – advertising can actually enhance an experience. For my part, I know a lot of people were decrying the “loss of innocence” in Twitter’s move towards advertising… but I’m actually quite excited to see how this all rolls out. To be honest, I think this is going to be a good thing for the medium. Seriously.

Marty Weintraub’s piece, “Branding, Direct Response, Intent & How Search Made Us Soft” should be required reading for all online marketers. Marty is going to be presenting at SMX Sydney next week, which I’ll be attending.

Yahoo opens a new firehose of social media data to developers, and social media monitoring gets just that little bit easier.

Taylor Pratt (from my favourite SEO Tools group, Raven Tools) kindly uploaded his Pubcon presentation, “Creating a Social Media Analytics Action Plan” to Slideshare. I love the internet.

Google starts displaying impression and click through data in your Webmaster Tools account (if you have one, that is… and if you don’t, why not?). I’ve been playing around with this for the last two days, and so far I’ve been surprised by how accurate the data actually is. Incidentally, although Matt McGee writes in the post “This appears to have been noticed first by Dutch search marketer, Karel Geenen”, personally I think I mentioned it on Twitter first. By two hours, it looks. But hey, Matt can’t see everything on the internet. Can he?

Delicious is a Social Bookmarking service, which means you can save all your bookmarks online, share them with other people, and see what other people are bookmarking. It also means that we can show you the most popular bookmarks being saved right now across many areas of interest. In addition, our search and tagging tools help you keep track of your entire bookmark collection and find tasty new bookmarks from people like you.

You can always check out all of my Delicious tags here, but this is a regular column on this site where I bring together the best of the bunch.

It’s a total cliche to mention Chris Brogan when you’re talking about Conversation Marketing, but hey, things become a cliche for a reason, right? This short but sweet post about “You as an entertainer” from Chris on OpenForum proves why he’s at that cliche level.

Jeremiah seems to have fallen into a “matrix routine” with his latest posts. That said, they continue to be extremely effective. This post on “How To Choose Social Media Programs by Brand, Lifestyle, Product or Location” is well worth a read for any brand.

You know, sometimes the BCM blog puts me in two minds. There’s something about the way the employees all respond to blog posts (rather than just high five each other in the office) that strikes me as… well, awkward. But this post from Nathan Bush was good enough to make me overlook that, simply for its summation: “1) Connect with People. 2) Do your job“.

Aah, links. They’re important to SEO, but any SEO will tell you that active link building may be one of the most challenging parts of the gig. Which is why this post from Wordstream is a must-read for anyone who wants to earn more links.

Laura Lippay bids Yahoo farewell, and posts one of the best posts I’ve seen on SEOmoz in… well, probably ever. Read the post, and make sure to check back for the rest of the series.

Oh, and if you have a spare hour or two, dive into Edelman’s 2010 Trust Barometer report. There are some very interesting tidbits, particularly the findings that peer trust among social networks has declined…

This piece from MediaPost titled “What Type Of Social Media Ads Are The Most Effective?” caught my eye. It’s a great example of how, every once in a while, you should ignore what everyone tells you. In this case: Although banners and newsletters were most likely to be seen as ads (and you’ll often be told to steer away from them in this more “social and engaged world”) they were among the best at triggering purchase intent and viral recommendations.

At this point, I’d file this in the “major speculation” column, but if true it could indicate some major changes in the SERPs (search engine results page).

Danny Sullivan takes a look at Google’s exit from China in his piece, “So Now Google Thinks Everyone Should Care About Chinese Censorship?“. More than anything, I love this simply for the way it’s written. Danny has a background in journalism, and it certainly shows in this fascinating piece.

Kate Matsudaira takes her first stab at posting on the SEOmoz blog, and hits it out the park with a step-by-step guide to creating an online video strategy… something very timely for me, considering I’m looking to branch into video with this site.

Richard Baxter also comes through with a very timely post, with his “Surviving a site migration” piece. Although it’s not a service I actively offer these days, it’s something I’m helping a client with at the moment… and this post is aiding the process in a major way.

Bill Slawski hits back at the SEO-naysayers with his piece on “Good SEO“. A great piece that dives deeper into what SEO – and good SEO at that – actually is.

The Grok has the best piece on Google Analytics I’ve seen since… well, ever. Work your way through this post, and Google Analytics will be an open book for you.

Olivier Blanchard follows up his first look at the Nestle debacle (which I wrote about here) with “Part Two“… and it’s simply fantastic. Well worth a read for any brand traversing the social network seas.

Eric Enge shares 29 tidbits from his interview with Matt Cutts, Google’s webspam chief. It’s a great interview with some information that every site owner should pay attention to. Highlights, from my point of view?

Confirmation of what I had previously suspected: there is some pagerank loss when a 301 redirect is in place.

Duplicate content will affect how many pages Google crawls from your site.

Google may transfer pagerank from duplicate pages to the page they consider to be canonical.

Nielsen’s 2010 Social Media Report takes a look at how Australian’s are interacting via social networks. How are they using it? Well, the same as you, really. Facebook dominates.

Ruud interviews Arnie Kuenn over at Search Engine People, and they discuss some advanced link building topics. I particularly like the part where Arnie says, “You see us talking a lot about link worthy content. We look at a client’s site to see if they have content that people might want to (voluntarily) link to. If not, we often develop content for them. As I mentioned above, a lot of what we do is create link worthy content, not just Linkbait, but real content, then we work hard to promote it“, because it so closely aligns with my beliefs.

Tom Webster from BrandSavant talks about practical sentiment analysis for social media… and it’s one of the best posts I’ve read on the topic in a while, purely for the wake up call it serves to all who rely on automated sentiment analysis.
